About CenCom
The Mission of CenCom is to provide responsible, professional public safety communication services to member agenices and their communities.
CenCom is funded in many different ways. The main source of our Operational funding comes from the Villages and Agencies we serve. CenCom also receives 9-1-1 surcharge money from telephone customers within our service area. This funding allows CenCom to operate on a day to day basis as well as maintain the extensive and costly physical equipment needed to operate a consolidated 9-1-1 communications center.
CenCom answers 9-1-1 and Non-Emergency phones for all Police, Fire and EMS for the agencies it serves. CenCom also:
- provides after hours Public Works notifications.
- monitors a central holding facility.
- receives direct alarms for businesses.
CenCom Staff are involved in APCO and NENA, which are 9-1-1 professional organizations that operate on a State and National level.
CenCom History
CenCom was formed on September 3, 1989 by intergovernmental agreement between the Villages of Hainesville, Round Lake, Round Lake Beach, Round Lake Heights, Round Lake Park and the Greater Round Lake Fire Protection District. The center became operational on September 15, 1991. In the year 2000, CenCom E9-1-1 began also providing communications services for the Villages of Barrington and Inverness. The main drive behind CenCom’s creation was to enhance departmental cooperation, increase efficiency and officer and citizen safety through a centralized communications center.
